I still can’t quite believe I’ve written a book.
Not only have I written one. It is published. An actual book that people can hold in their hands, open, and read.
Who would have thought I could? I certainly didn’t. And neither did one of my high school teachers,
who told me quite clearly never to attempt writing a book.
Perhaps she had a point back then.
But here I am, holding a published copy of Echoes of Us: Where Stories Collide, Life Expands. Her
“no” became my “yes.”
A friend recently asked me, “How did you do it?”
At first, I brushed the question aside. But it stayed with me. How did I end up writing a book?
The story really began with a university assignment. We were asked to develop a coaching method for our clients. I wanted to create something different—something meaningful and lasting. That assignment sparked an idea that refused to let go.
Soon, thoughts filled notebooks, scraps of paper, my handbag, and every available space. Half-
formed ideas collided with stories, reflections, and moments from life. The writing journey became one of starting, stopping, tearing chapters apart, rewriting, and beginning again.
Some days the words flowed so naturally that I lost myself in another world. Other days there was only doubt, overwhelm, and long stretches of silence where nothing seemed to come.
Through every setback and every breakthrough, my husband stood beside me. Friends called at just the right moments, encouraging me to keep going. Without their support, I’m honestly not sure this book would exist.
Even now, I have ten journals sitting on my desk, filled with drawings, scribbles, prayers, hopes, dreams, questions, and countless revisions. They tell the story behind the story.
Between the first spark of an idea and the finished book lies a journey I’m deeply grateful I didn’t abandon.
Of course, there were naysayers too.
Some liked the idea but suggested I change it and broaden the message, tweak the content, even remove the faith element to reach a bigger audience. Others simply believed my writing wasn’t good enough.
But there were also people who believed in me and cheered me on. And above all, there was one Voice that patiently guided, shaped, and carried me through the process.
It leaves me with a question:
Whose voice are you going to listen to?
I open Echoes of Us with these words from C.S. Lewis: “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.“
That quote captures my journey perfectly.
The beginning wasn’t easy. There were many moments when I wanted to give up. But I changed the ending.
I did it.
And the exciting part?
I’m already writing the next book.
Watch this space.
Echoes of Us: Where Stories Collide, Life Expands is now available on Amazon and in South
Africa.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged, prayed, believed, and walked this journey with me.
This is only the beginning.
